Maya loved hula hooping. Her version involved spinning around while holding the hula hoop up to her waist.

...a little distraught after her purple balloon floated away. While I think of the environmental consequences of a balloon, she feels loss suddlenly and powerfully and melts into sobs. I try to put on a bright face and urge her to watch it sail higher and higher into the sky, past birds. And of course I tell her we can go get another one for 75 cents and ask if she wants purple again or another color....

checking out her butterfly face in the mirror. Kristy is visible in the reflection.

Trying on some dreads....
Getting her face painted at Grand Targhee Music Festival, Saturday, July 19. She opted for her standby face-painting design: a butterfly. Only once has she gotten something different (ladybugs) and that was at the Festival for the Eno River in Durham earlier in the month.
She sits amazingly still and gets a very serious look when she gets her face painted.

Maya and Luke rocking out before Targhee.
Resting Gibbon adorned with Maya's donkey-blankie. She only shares with those she loves and everyone taking a nap deserves a blankie.
